Experiential Learning and Industrial Visit to Srirangapatna Heritage Site
On 24th September 2024, students of St. Philomena’s College, Department of Tourism and Hospitality, accompanied by Prof. Paul Iruthayaraj, Head of Department, Prof. Rini Brown and Chef. Renjith visited Srirangapatna a heritage site for anexperiential learning. The objective was to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in tourism and heritage site management.
During the visit, students explored historic sites including Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, Gumbaz, Sangama, and Colonel Bailey’s Dungeon. These sites provided valuable insights into cultural and historical significance, heritage conservation, and tourism operations.
The visit achieved its learning objectives, with students demonstrating an improved understanding of cultural heritage, heritage conservation, and tourism management. Student’s received a practical knowledge and appreciation for preserving cultural heritage. Student’s learnt about historical importance of Srirangapatna and how to be a responsible tourist. This industrial visit reinforces the importance of experiential learning in tourism education, and emphasizes the visits to heritage sites to enhance theoretical learning, planning itineraries and organising tours.
