Speaker : Mr. Manish Kumar – Freelancer Journalist Photographer
Objective:
- Briefed introduction about the camera, different angle of shots, light effects and genre of the photography to the students.
- Professional, DSLRs, mirror less cameras, medium format cameras.

The department of Journalism and Mass Communication of St. Philomena’s College (autonomous), Mysuru organized a Guest lecture on “Camera’s and its features” On 19-03-2024 to UG Journalism & OE students. The Guest speaker Mr. Manish Kumar Freelancer Journalist Photographer for local newspaper and YouTube Channel Reporter was heartily welcomed by Dr.Yamuna.B.Raj, Head of the Department, and Mass Communication of St. Philomena’s College (autonomous) Mysore.
Presence: OE- open elective, Photo Journalism 2nd SEM, BA-Journalism, 4th sem and 6th sem along with Dr.Yamuna.B.Raj, and Sister Archana Mary Department of Journalism and Mass Communication UG St.Philomena’s College Autonomous Mysore.

Speakers Profile:
The Guest speaker Mr. Manish Kumar, a highly skilled and experienced professional photographer with over 30 years of expertise in this filed. He holds a degree from Mysore University and a Diploma in Photography from Mumbai University. He has conducted numerous workshops on Photography subjects for professional photographers, college students, and employees of various sectors. His Photography skills have been widely recognized and awarded, including the prestigious Karnataka Chaya Kirana, Chaya Vibhushan, and Chaya Ratna awards from the Karnataka Photography and Videographer Association. He is also a renowned resource person for RUDSETI & RSETI Institution all over Karnataka. He has been received several medals and certificates for wildlife photography competitions, including his first award in the wildlife category from Benelli Group of Company, which came with a cash prize of 1 lakh and honor from Sri Virendra Hegde ji, Dharmasthala Trusty has best faculty for photography.
Speakers Address:
Mr. Manish Kumar delivered the lecture focused on” Camera’s and its feature’s” he said that to capture stunning photographs, not necessarily need the most expensive camera. What truly sets our work apart is our ability to leverage imagination, vision, and creativity and cameras skills has also the flexibility of accessorizing the camera with lenses, external flashes and filters.

The speaker advised the students that if they are beginners, a point- and –shoot camera or a smart phone would suffice. For more experienced individuals, they should consider DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, and if they are professionals, they can explore options such as DSLRs, mirror less cameras, medium format cameras or even film. Choosing the right camera is important, but selecting the right lens is crucial for expert photographers. Here’s what you need to know to get started and explore the different types of lenses. During his speech, he suggested to the students that it is important to note that not all cameras have the ability to capture great colors. He emphasized that ultimately, a good camera dosen’t makes the shot; it’s the photographer’s skill and vision that makes a great photograph. He blessed the students and encouraged them to go out there and let their skills shine.
Role & Responsibility: The MC of the event was Mr.Alwin. Invocation by Ms. Keerthana, Mr. Ali welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering in the event. Ms. Keerthana introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering and Hussaina delivered the vote of thanks.
Outcome– The entire session was fascinating and inspirational to watch and participants had the opportunity to enhance their skills and identify areas for improvement during the lecture. Additionally, they were given an overview of the different opportunities available in the field of photography.
